Spiritual Direction Practice: A Way of Proceeding
My ministry practice focus, as an Ignatian-trained spiritual director and clinician, is cura personalis. It's listening with you (together with the Holy Spirit) to where you sense God is drawing you and sharing what I studied from the teachings and wisdom within the Church’s spiritual tradition. Moreover, I am here to help you understand how God designed us and to care for your body, as well as your soul, for giving glory to God in a life of prayer to discover God's desires for you to flourish in service with Christ.
May my years of clinical experience in practice, from serving patients within a foundation of ongoing studies in evidence-based well-care and stress management and in spiritual care focused on the Ignatian tradition, offer you the support you are looking for.
As this site was initially developed to be just a place to download handouts for university students in spiritual direction, it grew slowly into much more for my other clients and retreatants, which you now see today.
I do hope you will find new ways or reminders to refresh and care for your soul.
Blessings to you and all you love,
Karen

During accompaniment and within the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises, I help others understand how God designed the body - how the brain works based upon some of the most recent neuroscience findings, with the base teachings on the operations of the soul from Thomas Aquanis' perspective.
When requested I add in those clinical tools of mindfulness and baseline methods used in CBT yet always within Lectio Divina and the tools of prayer - The Examen, Ignatian Meditation, and Contemplation. When requested, apply health coaching methods using evidence-based clinical information to support their self-care choices regarding diet, sleep, and exercise to care for the body, as well as the soul.
